More than 100 companies from the State of Georgia had the opportunity to learn about the investment and business possibilities that exist between Panama and the City of Atlanta thanks to the trade mission organized by the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Panama (AmCham) in partnership with Delta Air Lines.
The mission included the participation of the Minister of Commerce and Industries, Melitón Arrocha; the Minister of Canal Affairs and Secretary of the Panama Metro, Roberto Roy; the Deputy Mayor of the district of Panama, Raisa Banfield; as well as the Administrator of the Panamá Pacifico Agency, the Executive Director of Ciudad del Saber and around 30 Panamanian business leaders.
Over two days, the mission focused its efforts on three areas with real business opportunities: Logistics, Tourism, and Research and Development (R&D).
“Trade missions seek to make the most of the Trade Promotion Agreement in force with the United States. We went to Atlanta with the firm purpose of raising Panama’s profile and showcasing the potential that Panama has as a business ally and partner,” said Robert St. John, President of AmCham.
The mission included visits to Atlanta’s main business hubs, such as the headquarters of Delta Air Lines, CNN, Coca-Cola and UPS, as well as Hartsfield-Jackson airport, the Atlanta Convention Center and the Business Innovation Center of Georgia Tech. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Georgia Foreign Trade Zone and the Consejo Empresarial Promotor de Zonas Francas en Panamá (COEMPROZONAS).
Business leaders from the State of Georgia had the opportunity to learn about the advantages of investing in Panama and Latin America at the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, with keynote speakers including the Minister of Commerce and Industries, who presented the country’s commercial and economic outlook, and the Minister of Canal Affairs, who presented the progress of the Panama Canal Expansion and gave an overview of its commercial benefits, during the luncheon “Panama: Growing Your Business in Latin America.”
The event closed with a panel of leaders of Panama’s special economic zones, who explained how these areas work and how companies can benefit from establishing themselves in them.
Thanks to their participation in this trade mission, both Minister Arrocha and Minister Roy were interviewed by the international network CNN en Español on the programs Portafolio Global and CNN Dinero.
