“Silicon Valley has one of the most robust and fertile company-creation ecosystems in the world. Close to 25 Fortune 500 companies are headquartered here, and we are the country’s leaders in patent applications, which inevitably generates more startups and more business growth. Retaining, expanding and attracting companies is a priority for keeping our region’s economy vibrant.” — San Jose and Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce
An innovative culture and high-tech corporations: Silicon Valley is not just a point on the map. It is a brand: a global symbol of lasting innovation. Many of the world’s largest technology corporations are headquartered there, such as Apple Inc., Netflix, Intel and Google, among others, in addition to thousands of startups.
Headquarters: The Silicon Valley region is home to the headquarters of 35 corporations with annual revenue of more than 1 billion dollars, many of them in the Fortune 500.
Technology manufacturing: Silicon Valley is the leading technology manufacturing area in the United States, with close to 285.9 out of every 1,000 private sector workers employed in technology.
A thriving economy: The state of California accounts for 13% of the economy of the United States. San Francisco and Silicon Valley have become the region’s two engines of innovation and entrepreneurship. Many of the companies founded in Silicon Valley — Hewlett-Packard, Google, Cisco, Oracle, Apple and Yahoo!, among others — generate more than 2.7 trillion dollars in annual revenue, the equivalent of the 10th largest economy in the world.
Business opportunities: California’s economy depends on trade, and international trade accounts for about a quarter of the state’s economy. By output, the largest sectors are financial services, followed by trade, transportation and utilities; education and health; government; and manufacturing.
