Boston and its state of Massachusetts, with just under 7 million inhabitants, is without question one of the super hubs of knowledge and innovation.
Massachusetts is the 6th largest exporter of pharmaceutical products among the states ($5 billion in 2022), and it imports $2 billion. It is also one of the industry’s most important research and development centers.
Boston stands out in the life science and clean/green tech verticals; last year alone it invested 3.6 billion dollars in health-sector projects.
Some of Boston’s innovation centers are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Harvard Innovation Labs, MassChallenge, the Cambridge Innovation Center and Greentown Labs.
Panama is currently seeking to advance its strategy as a pharmaceutical hub and, at the same time, to enter the semiconductor value chain.
The countries that make up the Alliance for Development in Democracy (ADD) — Costa Rica, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Ecuador — are the state’s 4th largest export destination, after Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
